With inverter power sources, the welding transformer is fed with an alternating voltage of about 1 kHz to 4 kHz (medium frequency) or about 20 kHz (high frequency).
The significantly greater control speed is advantageous (with 1-kHz inverters, a power controller response time of 0.5 ms is achieved compared to 10 ms with 50 Hz welding current controllers). A further technological advantage of inverter welding is the lower mass of the welding transformers, so that it is possible to integrate them in modular form into existing systems, which means, among other things, a small secondary circuit with low resistance.
This medium-frequency welding technology is not restricted to new welding machines, but also older welding machines already in place at the customer's site can be converted.
